Freedom Center Architecture
The National Underground Railroad Freedom Center opened in August 2004 on the banks of the Ohio River in downtown Cincinnati, Ohio.
The building, consisting of three linked pavilions, is 158,000 square feet, clad in Italian marble and copper sheathing. It was designed by Blackburn architects of Indianapolis, and BOORA Architects of Portland, Ore., who were selected after a national design competition.
More than 60% of the Freedom Center's total cost of $110,000,000 was raised in a national capital campaign, Lighting Freedom's Flame, co-chaired by John Pepper, former Chairman & CEO of the Procter & Gamble Co., and former Atlanta Mayor and UN Ambassador Andrew Young.
The facility is available for private and special events rental
